One Clear Thing is a project of Rev. Benjamin S. Bigney. Ben grew up the New England Congregational tradition and discovered Zen practice as a music student in college. One Clear Thing brings together Ben’s reading of the Bible with Zen meditation and kong-an (koan) practice. By reading these two traditions together he hopes to find new ways of living faithfully.
Ben received his M.Div. from Pacific School of Religion in 2013 and was the 2013 recipient of the CLGS Marcella Althaus-Reid Award in Queer theology. He completed a year-long Clinical Pastoral Education residency at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center in September 2014, and currently serves full time as a hospice chaplain. As an undergraduate Ben studied piano at the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Southern Maine. Ben is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, a Dharma Teacher in the Kwan Um School of Zen, and a Board Certified Chaplain.
In his spare time Ben enjoys spending time with his partner and their dog, as well as playing piano. He is an avid fan of The Beatles, Keith Jarrett and Def Leppard.
